Heartnut - 3L Pot
£15.00
The heartnut (Juglans ailantifolia var. cordiformis), a Japanese walnut relative, producing heart-shaped nuts with a sweet, mild flavour that are easier to crack than common walnuts.
In Scotland, it shows promise as a hardy nut tree for sheltered sites, coping better with cool, damp conditions than many other walnut types.
While it still needs thoughtful placement and protection from late frosts when young, once established it can become a vigorous, attractive tree that produces abundant fatty nuts.
They are not reliably self-fertile so if you want heartnut nuts having 2 or 3 as pollination partners will be necessary.
